Welcome the weekend with Jawbone's new beer Boatyard Blues!

A Strawberry Hill brewery launched its new IPA yesterday.

Jawbone Brewing revealed Boatyard Blues, a raw session IPA made with Norwegian Kveik yeast.

Jawbone was founded by ex-Weird Beard Brew Co brewer Ben Hughes and opened its doors in December 2020.

The 30hl brewery and BeerDock taproom are tucked away in the boatyard next to Radnor Gardens.

Hughes said: "I've been wanting to brew a raw ale for some time. It's a no-boil method of brewing, traditionally used in Berliner Weisse and farmhouse style beers.

"It's the perfect approach for a session IPA because the proteins in the malt aren't broken down in the boiling process. That means you retain a lot of body, even with a low-ABV beer.

"We do get the wort close to the boil though, in order to sanitise the beer and get the extraction that we want from the hops.

"I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. There's a lot going on but it's very nicely balanced, with layers of soft citrus, pineapple, and chocolate flavours. It's been a real hit!"

Hughes and his partner Emma live in Hampton with their son Rory.

Jawbone beers are available to buy online and at the brewery door.
