A 53-year-old man is in a life-threatening condition after falling from an e-scooter he was riding in Twickenham.

Medics rushed to the scene at 7.06pm last night (15 July) after electrically powered vehicle crashed on Heath Road, leaving the man 'shaking' on the ground.

An air ambulance was called to the scene along with several police cars and ambulances, causing tailbacks through Twickenham.

The victim, who has not been named, was taken to a major trauma centre. His next of kin have been informed of his condition.

Police said this morning that the collision did not involve any other vehicles.

However, talking to the Evening Standard last night, Twickenham shopkeeper Ibrahim Bozkurt said he'd been told the man was hit by a car.

Ibrahim said: "I was serving a customer who told me a man had been hit by a car and I went out straight away."

"He was lying on the floor in shock, shaking, with his head covered in blood."

He added:"Electric scooters are so dangerous.

"I don't know how but there was zero damage to the car."

In a statement, the London Ambulance service said: "We were called at 7.06pm on July 15 to reports of a collision involving an electric scooter on Heath Road, Twickenham.

"We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer, and a medic in a car. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.

"A man was treated at the scene and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority."
