Momentum Children's Charity CEO Sarah Woods is marking her first year in the role, describing it as both a "natural step" and a "perfect fit" as she looks to expand support for families across London, Surrey and Sussex.

Sarah, who is from Epsom, joined the charity in May 2025, bringing a background in communications, fundraising and senior strategic roles across the charity sector.

Over the past 12 months she has focused on getting to grips with every part of the organisation's work, from service delivery and HR to volunteering and operations.

She has also visited partner hospitals across Surrey, London and Sussex, meeting families supported by Momentum and hearing first-hand about their experiences.

Speaking about her first year, she said: "While this role has been a step up for me, it has also felt like the most natural step in my career.

"That's because Momentum is such a special place and the perfect fit for me - and a year on, that feeling is even stronger.

"I have met volunteers, ambassadors, fundraisers, and key stakeholders and heard from parents, siblings, and grandparents about the impact Momentum has had on their lives, and that is what drives me every day."

Highlights from her first year include helping organise a special event at the Houses of Parliament, hosted by Monica Harding, as well as securing a significant three-year corporate partnership for the charity.

Sarah also completed the Thames Path Challenge in September, raising funds for Momentum and describing it as a personal milestone.

She added: "I walked 28km. To say I wasn't fit is probably an understatement, so I was definitely nervous. But walking alongside some of the families we support gave me the motivation to keep going, and it became one of the most rewarding experiences of the year."

Looking ahead, she said Momentum will focus on growing its reach carefully and sustainably.

"We would love to grow and support more families in new areas, as well as reach a wider age range of young people, but to do so carefully and sustainably - ensuring we never compromise on the quality or stability of the support we already provide," she said.

Momentum Children's Charity supports families across London, Surrey and Sussex whose children are facing cancer or a life-challenging condition, working with hospitals to provide tailored support in hospital and at home.
