A chess piece was stolen from the giant chess board in Church Street yesterday afternoon (Sunday 12 November).

The chess board, which is situated outside Crausader Travel, is very popular.

The Church Street Twitter account tweeted "A blonde haired man about 40 ish just walked off with our White Queen.

"If anyone sees the Queen please can you bring it back to Crusader Travel 58 Church Street?"

A Church Street spokesperson told Nub News: "We were really disappointed.

Not just that it was taken but that we heard he had been seen by traders etc in church street but that no one bothered to stop him.

"I cycled after him but I had been told too late and couldn't find him.

They added: "We will continue to put the chess out for all our local community to enjoy. We know a lot of people like to play it, both adults and kids."

"We have a spare Brocken one that we will use for the time being."
