The consultations seeking feedback on several School Streets across Twickenham close today, June 30.

Consultations are closing today for the following School Streets taking part in the trial:

- GEMS Twickenham Primary Academy

- Orleans Primary School

- St Mary's CE Primary School

- St Stephen's Primary School

- The Richmond upon Thames School

- Trafalgar Infant and Junior Schools

Residents can submit feedback via the list on the LBRUT website. The full list of current council consultations can be found here.

What are School Streets?

A School Street is where a road(s) around a school temporarily closes to all motor vehicles except those of the immediate road residents; thereby becoming a pedestrian and cycle zone during the school's opening and closing times.

They ensure a safer space for children around their school, contribute to reduced local pollution and encourage parents and children to opt for sustainable travel methods, like walking and cycling.

If your school is interested in having a school street, email [email protected]

School Street exemptions can be requested for:

- Residents and businesses within the School Street (up to 2 vehicles per address)

- Blue badge holders visiting a property in the School Street

- Care workers serving a property within the School Street

- Taxis (private hire) serving a property within the School Street

- Emergency vehicles, Council waste trucks, school buses and school transport and taxis (Hackney carriages only) serving properties in the School Street will be exempt.

Retractable barriers and marshal management are used to close many School Streets. ANPR cameras are a permanent solution in some areas.
