Richmond Council is consulting on plans to expand football facilities at Hampton Common to meet growing demand, particularly from junior and girls' teams.

The proposals include adding two new pitches, a nine-a-side football pitch and a five-a-side training grid, to sit alongside the existing 11-a-side and nine-a-side pitches already in use.

With football's increasing popularity among women and girls, the Council has confirmed that female teams and groups would receive priority access to the new facilities.

Richmond Council said: "Grassroots football is thriving locally for both male and female players, but the current facilities in the Hampton area (one 11v11 pitch and one 9v9 pitch) do not meet the growing demand from teams."

As part of the wider plans, the Council is also looking to upgrade the former Ambulance Station on Tangley Park Road.

Proposed improvements include the installation of internal storage and a permanent accessible toilet, replacing the current temporary portaloo used during weekend matches.

Residents and local football groups are encouraged to share their views.

The consultation is open until Sunday, 14 September, and feedback will help shape the final plans.
