Discover Twickenham with a new Quiz Trail this Easter
Learn more about Twickenham's secrets this Easter from its role in launching Rod Stewart to the origins of the annual Royal Variety Performance.
A new Quiz Trail has been created to allow locals and visitors to discover more about the area, learn about its history and have some fun too.
For example, did you know that Rod Stewart was discovered in Twickenham, where he was spotted singing drunkenly on the station platform by Long John Baldry.
Or that it is the home to the Royal Variety Charity, which organises the annual Royal Variety Show – the annual extravaganza supported by the reigning monarch since 1912.
The charity operates out of Brinsworth House, which provides a fabulous home to many of the best loved performers from TV, film and stage of recent decades
The Quiz Trail is being launched this easter and is an ideal way to keep the kids entertained over the school holiday or indeed any time of the year.
It is not just for families and children, for there is also plenty to discover for adults as well.
Twickenham town centre has had a far-reaching impact on politics, arts and music culture.
Discover Twickenham BID, which supports the town's businesses, commissioned the new trail to encourage people into the town centre and showcase Twickenham's amazing history and cultural heritage.
It was created by a mother and daughters trio – Liz, Becky and Laura – who have now created over 20 town quiz trails across Surrey, Kent and East Sussex.
Liz said: "We put together trails which pick up the highlights – we point you to look up, look down, look and all around, to things you might just have walked past, because we all usually walk just looking straight ahead.
"The clues are set from interesting features around the town so you really get to see lots of things you might have missed if you just walked around. Alongside there are lots of pages of local history and stories, all in short articles, so you can take the trail home and have a good read through."
"My daughters and I have thoroughly enjoyed researching the fascinating local history. Prior to creating this trail, we had no idea that the world-famous 'Royal Variety Performance' originated from Twickenham!
"We're sure this Twickenham Quiz Trail will show everyone that there's far more here than just the great rugby!"
The team launched the Quiz Trail at the Diamond Jubilee Gardens at the weekend.
You can also pick up a copy at a number of local stores around Twickenham at a special introductory rate of just £4 each. Visit www.discovertwickenham.co.uk for more details and stockists.
