The borough's only police station was closed for more than two hours this morning after a member of the public turned up carrying what was feared to be explosives.

Twickenham Police station had to be closed to investigate the peculiar items, which turned out to be Shell casing souvenirs from the Second World War.

A police spokesman told Nub News: "Twickenham station was closed today as a person attended the station to hand in two tank rounds (shell casings) from a house clearance.

Station thought to have been closed for more than two hours

"The front office was temporarily closed to the public for a very short period of time.

"The items were confirmed as safe and the front office was reopened."
