A cyclist needed hospital treatment following a collision with someone, thought to be a teenage boy, on an e-scooter.
The collision occurred on the Staines Road, near the David Lloyd leisure centre, in Twickenham, on Friday morning.
Staff from the leisure centre have been praised for rushing to help the cyclist, who was left lying in the road.
The rider of the e-scooter left the scene before the police arrived and has – as yet – not been identified.
The Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called to Staines Road Twickenham on Friday, 25 February to reports an electric scooter rider had collided with a pedal cycle.
"The electric scooter made off before police arrival.
"The rider of the pedal cycle was taken to hospital due to injury to his shoulder. At this point investigation is ongoing."
It is illegal to ride a privately owned escooter on public roads and pavements in the UK.
One concern is that the silent scooters are a danger to others because there is no sound and many do not have any sort of bell or horn.
Richmond is one of the London boroughs to have an official e-scooter hire scheme, which allows their use on the area's roads.
The London operators, Dott, Lime and TIER, are collaborating with UCL's world-leading research facility PEARL to research and develop a 'universal sound' for rental e-scooters.
The hope is this will improve safety across the entire e-scooter industry by helping people, in particular those with visual impairments.
The rental vehicles in London have high safety standards, which go beyond the national standards, including a speed limit of 12.5mph, larger wheels and lights that are always on throughout any rental.
