With freedom day officially given the green light next Monday we're excited to bring you even more Twickenham events in the coming weeks and months.

Our top pick for this week is a two-week summer school for all the budding journalists out there!

Did you know that two of the country's best journalism courses are in Twickenham?

This summer reporting extravaganza is run by the award-winning News Associates at Ampersand House on York St.

If you or anyone you know is curious about the world of journalism, this is the event for them.

It's an intensive course covering the basics of news, magazine and feature writing – with an added emphasis on the growing importance of broadcast journalism, data and digital journalism and social media.

Lizzie May, who attended the summer school in 2019, told Nub News: "The summer school at News Associates was the first door I opened in journalism that completely convinced me to pursue it as a career.

"The staff are so involved in your every-day activities that you feel as if you're a real reporter, and you get treated like one too in that they push you to write the best copy, record the best podcasts and immerse yourself in the ethics, scandals and work ethic of a journalist.

"I also met one of my best friends there and because we enjoyed it so much we went on to do the NCTJ fast track course the following year. I wish I could relive those two weeks again!"

News Associates has full-time tutors, editors and journalists, but the focus is on making your experience feel like a newsroom experience rather than a classroom.

It also runs an undergraduate degree programme and level 5 diploma accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) - the qualification that editors look for when recruiting journalists.

The summer school is open to anyone aged 16 and over. Whether you're a blogger or student journalist, this fortnight in Twickenham lets you test the water of a career in journalism before signing up to a longer course.
