Part of the towpath in East Twickenham has reopened following the fall of a large tree.

What appeared to be a willow tree came down on the evening of Sunday, 29 June, blocking the popular riverside route between Richmond Bridge and Warren Gardens.

Richmond Council has confirmed today (3 July) that the towpath has reopened, after diversions were in place.

A spokesperson for the Council told Twickenham Nub News: "Richmond Council received a report about a fallen tree on the towpath near Richmond Bridge and Warren Gardens on the evening of Sunday 29 June.

"The same evening the fire brigade attended the site and closed the footpath.

"The tree has since been cleared, and the towpath is open to the public.

"The Richmond Council Parks Tree Team is conducting additional inspections of trees in the surrounding area.

"Any necessary maintenance work will be scheduled based on the inspection findings."
