A new shop selling freshly-baked bread, pastries, and cakes opened on Church Street this morning.

Queues built up quickly outside GAIL's Bakery as locals came to get a taste of what was on offer.

Assistant Bakery Manager Aga Wasilewska said of the first day: "It was busy and it was intense, but it was so lovely to meet everyone.

"A few neighbours came with a gift this morning!

"It's not every day you open a bakery - it's a great opportunity to do it.

"Twickenham is lovely - I really really love the river!"

She has been working for the company for nearly a year and has moved from the Wimbledon shop to open the new one.

She didn't have to think twice when the company asked her to help.

"It's a huge thing to do - of course I said yes!"

The bakery currently only has outdoor seating but Wasilewska said they're used to all the protocol now.

"It's the new normal, it's not challenging anymore.

"We've got a big space here so we're lucky."

GAIL's opened its first bakery on Hampstead High Street in 2005.

Today it has 60 bakeries in neighbourhoods in and around London, Oxford, Brighton and beyond, and it has plans to open ten more.

Find the store at 35 Church Street.

Opening Hours: 7am-7pm, Monday - Sunday.
