How to make the most of Twickenham in the sun as the weather gets warmer
By Riana McConochie 12th Apr 2026
The UK has recently been enjoying some of the warmest day of the year so far, with temperatures in London reaching 26°C yesterday (Wednesday, 8 April).
As spring settles in and the days grow warmer, Richmond comes into its own, offering countless ways to get outside and soak up the sunshine.
The charming, leafy area of Richmond becomes truly picturesque in the spring and summer months, offering the perfect destination to escape the hustle and bustle of central London whilst only being a short train journey away.
Here are some of Nub News' top picks for how you can spend your day out and about in the sun this spring.
A walk in Richmond Park
Recently crowned as the UK's most popular spring walk, the famous Richmond Park is the perfect place for a free day out, a long walk, a picnic, and the best part - the deer! Whilst the Richmond Park deer roam free all year, Spring and Summer are particularly special if you're looking to see baby deer (fawn), which are normally born in May and June.
Richmond Park is free to enter and the opening times can be found here.
A visit to Kew Gardens
The world-famous Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew offer the perfect day out with a range of botanical spectacles that appeal to people of all ages. Whether that's a walk through the bluebell woods, which begin to flower from April onwards, the Carbon Garden or the Princess of Wales conservatory.
Or for history lovers, a visit to Queen Charlotte's Cottage, for any Bridgerton fans familiar with the fictionalised story of Queen Charlotte, or Kew Palace, the summer home of King George III in the 18th century.
Queen Charlotte's Cottage is open on weekends and bank holidays from 11.30am (last entry 3.30pm) until September 2026.
Kew Palace is open daily from 11am (last entry at 4pm)
Ticket prices vary but children under 4 go free and students can get a ticket for just £10!
The Hampton Court Palace Tulip Festival
To really discover spring in bloom, visit Hampton Court Palace where the beloved tulip festival has returned this spring.
Displaying tens of thousands of tulips, this festival showcases the beauty and craftsmanship of planting across the palace gardens.
The festival is on now and the tulips are predicted to be in full bloom until the 26th of April, although this is not guaranteed.
Ticket prices vary, but again, children under 4 go free and they offer a discount to full time students with a peak ticket price of £25.
The Richmond May Fair
If you're looking for a fun day out, particularly with young children, the annual Richmond May Fair is back for another year. This fair is one of Richmond's biggest community events, offering entertainment, food, drink and a dog show. This year the fair will be bigger and better, with an expanded selection of charity stalls, a big wheel, Victorian carousel and this year's dog show will conclude with a new attraction - The Sausage Game.
The fair will be on from 10am to 5pm on Saturday the 9th of May and entry is free!
Richmond Duck Pond Markets
In the centre of Richmond is Heron Square, home to a charming artisan market with stalls holding unique, locally, ethically and sustainably made products of all kinds, from jewelry to food and drink. If you're looking to do some shopping, or just wander around the pretty town of Richmond, this market should definitely be one of your stops. The market is easy to get to with Heron Square being located just a 10 minute walk from Richmond station.
The market is on every weekend, often between 11:00am and 4:30pm.
On particularly hot days in the summer months to come, you might be looking for an al-fresco swim, in which case, the Pools on the Park is perfect for you. With both a 33-metre indoor pool and outdoor lido available year-round, Better offers the perfect opportunity to make fitness fun or to just spend a leisurely day at the lido with family or friends.
The pools are located on Old Deer Park on Twickenham Road, just a short walk from Richmond station.
Ticket prices for adults are just £6.90 for anytime access!
