The UK's leading independent skin-cancer screening and mole-check provider, The Mole Clinic, is opening a new, state-of-the-art clinic in Richmond as skin-cancer rates continue to rise sharply across the UK.

Skin cancer is now one of Britain's fastest-growing cancers. Melanoma incidence has risen by around one-third in the last decade, making early detection more crucial than ever.

At the same time, lifestyle factors are driving risk: indoor tanning is strongly linked to skin cancer, with research showing a 59 per cent increased risk of melanoma for individuals who used sunbeds before the age of 35.

With more than 350,000 patients seen and millions of moles and other skin lesions screened for skin cancer, The Mole Clinic has led the way in early detection for over 20 years.

Its dermoscopy-led approach is clinically audited, independently accredited and trusted for diagnostic accuracy, helping thousands of patients access early treatment and life-saving interventions.

Richmond has one of London's most health-conscious, outdoor-active populations -from runners and cyclists in Richmond Park, to families spending long hours outdoors - combined with high levels of international travel.

These factors, while positive for wellbeing, can increase UV exposure and the risk of skin damage.

Despite this, quick access to expert skin-cancer screening in the area has been limited.

"Richmond is the natural next step for us," said Annie Meharg, Chief Executive Officer of The Mole Clinic.

She added: "People need to treat skin checks in the same way they treat dental check-ups - as a routine, essential part of staying healthy. Too many delay getting a mole checked because they're busy, unsure, or can't access an appointment quickly.

"We're on a mission to remove those barriers and make expert skin screening fast, accessible and normal for everyone."

Annie continued: "Residents here value prevention and wellbeing. Our new clinic brings the UK's most experienced skin-cancer screening team right into the heart of the community."

Dr David Veitch, Consultant Dermatologist at The Mole Clinic, added: "Skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers we see, yet cases continue to rise every year.

"Early detection is absolutely critical - when caught at an early stage, treatment is simpler, outcomes are far better, and lives are saved.

"Regular skin checks are not optional; they should be a routine part of everyone's healthcare. Our clinicians in Richmond will offer the same high level of diagnostic accuracy and specialist expertise that The Mole Clinic is known for nationally."

He continued: "Many people still underestimate the risks of UV exposure - whether from holidays, outdoor sport, or sunbeds - but the evidence is clear.

"By providing fast access to expert assessment in Richmond, we can help more people catch problems early, avoid unnecessary worry, and receive the right care at the right time."

The Mole Clinic's model is built around fast access, clinical accuracy and early detection. The new Richmond clinic will offer:

  • Same-day and next-day skin checks
  • Full-body mole mapping and dermoscopy
  • Expert skin-cancer assessment and early diagnosis
  • Fast-track referrals and removals to consultant dermatologists and surgeons covered by ALL major UK private insurers
  • Private pathways with no GP referral required

The organisation will also host a series of community awareness events in Richmond throughout the year, promoting sun safety, self-checking guidance, and the importance of regular professional skin reviews.
