Let the celebrations begin! – Nub News guide to local Platinum Jubilee events

Thousands of families across the borough will be celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee over the next four days at street parties and special events.

Many of our famous venues, attractions, parks, pubs and community halls will be hosting get-togethers, including live music, barbecues, picnics, stalls and craft fairs.

At 9.45pm this evening, Council chiefs will be unveiling the borough's Platinum Jubilee Beacon at a special ceremony on The Terrace, Richmond Hill.

Some 331 street parties have been approved and the Council has given over 100 grants to residents and local groups to support the celebrations.

Platinum Jubilee celebration, Church Street, Twickenham

Sunday, June 5 June.

Entertainment and fabulous hospitality from traders coupled with al fresco dining and refreshments (to buy).

Church Street will also host a craft fair with all kinds of local crafters, including local craft beer from Jawbone Brewery.

There will be live music from local bands, street food, balloon modelling, Punch and Judy and face painting. The main entertainment will run from noon-6pm.

 

Hampton Wick Jubilee Celebration - High Street

Saturday, June 4 – 11am-6pm.

Food, live music, stalls and drink. Opening the show will be Teddington School students performing modern/contemporary/classic songs.

The impressive bill also includes classical guitarists Emily and Louis, who are both are studying for their Masters at the Guildhall School of Music.

Local performer James Taylor, plays guitar and sings, while Katherine Ellis supported by the duo "Calico Lace" will perform rock covers and original material.

Also on the show are Nigel Price, an award winning jazz guitarist who is teaming up with a fellow guitarist, the French virtuoso, Alban Claret. Supported by one of the most in-demand double bass players on London's jazz scene, Mikele Montolli, and visiting Italian drummer Laura Klain.

Phil Marshall is 'Lennon Live' with a variety of top Beatles tunes; and Dukes of Rock will play a selection of soul, blues , and rock.

Friday, June 3 – Noon to 7pm.

Afternoon Tea themed Platinum Jubilee Street Party

Grab some food and drink from the wide range of bakeries, coffee shops, cafes and restaurants from the wonderful High Street.

Enjoy music from local performers or dancing to a 'Best of British' disco.

Lots of fun competitions, including the 'Great Whitton Bake Off''; and a 'Royal Fancy Dress Party'.

With a bar selling local brew for the adults and crafts and face painting for the kids, the Jubilee tea party has something for everyone.

Hampton Wick Big Jubilee Picnic

Sunday, June 5 – Noon-3pm

Bring your picnic or enjoy the BBQ and ice creams at Pistachios in the Park Cafe while you enjoy music from various local bands and singers, free inflatables and traditional village games and sports like egg & spoon races, tug 'o' war, a balloon modeller, face painting and much more.

Saturday, June 4 – Noon - 2pm.

Picnic and Pudding Jubilee Community Picnic at the front of the newly restored magnificent house and gardens, which are free to tour.

Live Jazz & BBQ Garden Party- The Garden, The Cabbage Patch

Sunday, June 5 – 12.30pm-6.30pm.

Twickenham Jazz Club & Patchwork Productions present Lesley Christiane Band: Saxophone - Julian Costello, Meredith White - Keyboards, Julian Bury - Double Bass

An uplifting celebratory afternoon of music and fun presented by the hostess of Twickenham Jazz Club and her band. Expect a programme of much-loved jazz standards, a few self-penned wonders.

Hampton Beer Festival - Scout Hut, Station Road

Friday/Saturday - June 3-4.

Annual beer festival to raise money for local charities. As well as beer, we also have a range of ciders, wines, and gins.

Each session also has food, including a BBQ, and live music.

The Saturday afternoon session is family friendly and dogs are welcome at all sessions.

Hampton Inspired Hub for a Royal Jubilee Celebration - Ashley Road

Saturday, June – 1pm- 4pm.

Free event with activities, entertainment, including a Bouncy Castle, and a wonderful free buffet food table.

Why not bring one of your signature snacks or dishes to add to the buffet table, then just bring your own plate and tuck in!

The event will have exciting mix of stalls, crafts, activities, products, displays, information and entertainment. All free except stalls and bar.

Platinum Jubilee Fête at Petersham Nurseries, Richmond

Friday/Saturday – June 3-4.

The famous restaurant and café is being transformed to host a summer fete, including an extravaganza of street food, picknicking and performances.

The Nurseries will take cues from the street parties happening up and down the country and there will be no requirement to make a booking to attend.

Stalls will be serving everything from finger food classics such as coronation chicken sandwiches, Scotch eggs, and sausage rolls, to home-made piadine – grilled flatbreads - drawing on Italian flavours.

In true street party style, smoky grills will be fired up for barbecue favourites, while the cream tea station will be pouring Prosecco and dishing up delicate cucumber and egg sandwiches, as well as freshly-baked buttermilk scones with rhubarb jam and clotted cream.

In true village fête style, musical entertainment will add to the celebratory atmosphere, while various competitions, including a colouring competition for children, will give the opportunity for guests to win some grand prizes.

Ham Polo Club Jubilee Family Fun Day

Sunday, June 5 – 11am- 5am.

Family Fun Day with polo, a dog show (bring your own dog to enter!) pony rides, face-painting, bouncy castle and stalls.

Soulhub – Tide Tables Café, Richmond Riverside

Thursday, June 2 – 7pm-10pm.

Sundowners and dancing with Soulhub and Strictly Come Dancing professional, Andrew Cuerden, under giant London Plane trees by the Thames, next to Richmond Bridge.

Tickets, which are available in advance via Eventbrite or at the event, allow you to dance for as little or as much as you like over the three hours.

 

Platinum Jubilee Weekend at The Richmond Club – Kew Road

Saturday, June 4 - enjoy amazing BBQ dishes, and salad bowls in the beautiful garden setting - or £25per person. DJ Lindy Layton will be taking to the decks from 2pm- 8pm.

Sunday, June 5 - special Afternoon Tea, including bubbles to celebrate the grand occasion from noon for £50 per person.

Saturday, June 4 – Noon-6pm.

Your local Rotary Club and RNLI have joined forces to create a special community event featuring live music from local performers, fun and games.

A small charity fair in the church garden with things to buy, games to play and refreshments.
