A growing women's darts community that began with six strangers in a Teddington pub is now preparing to expand into Twickenham after a hugely successful first taster session earlier this month.

The Teddington Women's Amateur Darts League (TWADL) has announced plans to host a free women's darts trial session at The Prince Albert in Twickenham on 21 July from 7pm to 9pm, following huge demand from women wanting to get involved.

The group, which launched earlier this year after six local women bonded over the World Darts Championship final, says its mission goes far beyond the game itself, focusing on friendship, confidence, community and creating welcoming spaces for women in traditionally male-dominated environments.

TWADL recently hosted its first women's darts taster evening at The Builders Arms in Teddington, with organisers describing the event as an "incredible success".

A full house of 12 women aged from their early 20s through to their 70s attended the evening, many arriving without knowing anyone else in the room.

However, organisers said it did not take long for conversations to begin flowing as attendees took part in a series of fun, relaxed and non-competitive darts games.

The positive atmosphere in the pub continued well after the session ended, with many participants staying for drinks and chatting late into the evening.

One attendee said: "I've been crying out for a way to meet new people away from the school gates, to try something new, and to chat about things other than family life. I feel like I've found my people."

Another added: "I was really nervous to walk in by myself but it's been so easy to chat to people and I've had such a great time."

A third participant said: "It was so much fun – it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be, and I wasn't as bad at darts as I thought I would be."

TWADL founder Hannah, who previously spoke exclusively to Nub News: "What began as a fun idea quickly became about something much bigger – friendship, confidence, community and creating a welcoming space where women could try something new without pressure or judgement."

The group currently meets every Wednesday at The Builders Arms in Teddington, where members practise regularly while also organising social meet-ups outside of darts.

Following the success of the first trial session, TWADL has already confirmed plans to launch a second women's social darts team in The Adelaide pub in Teddington.

Attention has now turned to Twickenham, where organisers hope the upcoming July session at The Prince Albert will inspire more women to form their own local teams.

Hannah said the wider aim is to encourage women across South West London and Surrey to discover the benefits of the sport.

She added: "Darts is incredibly accessible. You don't need expensive equipment, a certain fitness level or previous experience to get involved.

"At TWADL, being part of a darts team is less about competition and far more about connection. It gives people a reason to get out, meet others and feel part of a community."

Women aged 18 and over of all experience levels are welcome to attend the upcoming free Twickenham session.
