Eye-witnesses have told of a terrifying machete attack aimed at man parked on the Twickenham Road between St Margarets and Isleworth.

The incident happened at around 4.30pm on Friday afternoon and appears to have involved two men who were attacked after parking their van outside the Isleworth Angling and Tackle Shop, opposite the Shell garage.

The incident happened close to the Mario's fish and chip shop which is very popular on a Friday.

One of the men was inside the shop buying bait, while the second man was in the van when a stranger pulled out a machete and launched his attack.

One witness said: "A crazy man pulled out a machete and attacked the poor man in the van smashing all the windows.

"I checked the man was ok. He was inside the van, jumping out of the way, as the man was smashing the van up.

"He was ok but very shaken obviously… I can't believe he had that huge machete under his coat!! Terrifying!!!"

Another said: "The window of the van was smashed so badly. It was very scary scene."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 16:36hrs on Friday, November 11, to reports that a man was threatening another man with a machete in Twickenham Road, Isleworth.

"Officers attended. No injuries were reported. Shortly after 18.00hrs a man was arrested in suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, attempted GBH and criminal damage.

"He has been taken into custody."
