British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for a witness to come forward following a sexual assault at Twickenham railway station.

At around 7pm on 4 May, the victim was standing on her own at Twickenham railway station when she was approached by a man. The man proceeded to sexually assault her.

The victim alerted another man to the assault and he intervened.

BTP say the man who assaulted the victim then ran away. Officers are keen to speak to this witness or anyone else with information who may be able to help their investigation.

Detective Sergeant Marc Farmer said: "A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with this incident and remains in police custody.

"We believe the witness who intervened might have attended the Army v Navy rugby fixture earlier in the afternoon.

"I would like to stress that he not suspected of any criminal activity, however we do believe he has vital information that could help our investigation."

If you are the man who intervened, or if you have any information that could help, please contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 with the reference 622 of 04/05/2024.

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
