British Transport Police has confirmed that one person has been left in hospital after being stabbed near Barnes Railway Station this morning (26 September).

Officers were called to Barnes railway station at around 7:10am today following reports of a "serious assault".

Paramedics also attended with a person being taken to hospital with injuries that are consistent with stabbing and are considered to be life threatening.

BTP say enquiries into this incident are ongoing, and anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 89 of 26 September.

T/Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn said: "There is absolutely no place for violence on the railway network and detectives are working at pace to investigate the incident.

"The station will remain closed while our initial enquiries are carried out, and the public will see increased high-visibility patrols in the area and across the network to provide reassurance."

As a result of the incident, the station closed while officers carried out their investigation, but according to South Western Railway (SWR) has since confirmed that "trains are running normally at Barnes".

The train company said via its website: "We have been informed the police dealing with an incident near the railway at Barnes. This means trains will not call on Platform 1 at this station, please use Platform 2 for services towards London Waterloo."

"For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.

"We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey."
