A West London HSBC branch is set to give up some of its office space to be turned into flats as plans emerge to refit the space above the bank for residential use.

Plans have been submitted to Hounslow Council to convert the upper floors of the HSBC, at 127 Hounslow High Street, into nine flats for market sale.

If approved by the council, the site will see no changes to its external structure as it would only be a change in use of the space from commercial to residential.

The proposals suggest the construction of nine flats to replace the two floors of office space, but the bank branch below would remain open.

Of the flats proposed, eight would be studio flats for one person, and one would be a two-bedroom flat for three people. The second floor would maintain a large area for the bank, with the remaining space on that floor converted into one two-bedroom flat and three studio flats.

The third floor would be converted entirely from offices and bank staff communal areas into five studio flats, the smallest being 37 square meters.

It is unclear at this stage whether any flats will be sold at an affordable rate, however the proposals suggest none will be available for rent. In early December the Hounslow Council Planning Committee voted in favour of the demolishment and rebuilding of Deichmann, only minutes up the High Street, to be converted into 16 flats, none of which were considered affordable.

At the time Cllr John Stoud-Turp, member for Isleworth, voiced his concerns about the lack of affordable housing. He said: "Notwithstanding the lack of affordable homes, let's hope it brings jobs. It's bringing houses, not the right type of houses, we'd like affordable, but it has high levels of sustainability there if it's approved."

According to planning documents, if approved by the local authority, the developers expect work to begin on the site in December 2025 and finish in December 2026.
