The team at the Turk's Head in St Margarets have beaten hundreds of pubs across the country to be named as a top six finalist in the Licensee of the Year Awards.

The prestige awards are organised by the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) and the place on the list of finalists represents a huge achievement for licensee Ollie Coulombeau and his team.

The Fuller's pub is at the heart of the Twickenham community, particularly as a venue for regular gigs from The Jazz Sanctuary and stand-up on Saturday's from The Bearcat Club.

The BII said: "This Twickenham loved local is perfect for whatever you're looking for: a quiet pint, delicious meal, action packed sports or a barrel of laughs - they've got it!

"Just six licensees have made it to the Grand Final of this year's Licensee of the Year Awards 2023, and we're delighted to say that this pub is one of them!

"We have had over 300 nominations this year. Any pub that makes it all the way to the final is amongst the very best of the best. So, be sure to pay them a visit – you'll be so glad you did."

It added: "As the most prestigious award for an individual or partnership of licensees in our industry, we are looking forward to finding our Licensee of the Year Award winners."

Ollie told Nub News: "I'm over the moon to be a finalist of the BII Licensee of the Year Award. It's the pinnacle of any publican's career and I'm honoured to have made it this far. Of course, none of this would be possible without my fantastic team at The Turk's Head – so a huge thanks to them."

The Jazz Sanctuary welcomed the accolade for the Turk's Head, saying: "So thrilled for Ollie and the team at The Turks Head! Their support for The Jazz Sanctuary has been amazing."

This was seconded by James Bearcat, who said: "Couldn't agree more. Ollie and his Turk's Head team deserve every accolade and, like for you, have been brilliantly supportive for Bearcat Comedy since they arrived."

The winner will be announced at the BII's 'Big Summer Event', which will be held on June 20 at the HAC Royal Artillery Ground in London.
