£9.3m Twickenham Civic Centre revamp to begin this week

Richmond Council has announced that it will begin work on upgrading its Twickenham Civic Centre in a major project to modernise and decarbonise the building.
The redevelopment, with a budget of £9.3million, aims to make the Civic Centre "greener, more efficient, and better equipped to serve residents for years to come".
From Monday 8 September, site hoardings will be put up outside the Civic Centre to allow the works to go ahead safely.
The Council has confirmed that all services, including the Customer Contact Centre, will remain open and accessible during the project.
The first phase will focus on the Stable Block, with work on the main Civic Centre building due to start next spring.

Improvements include:
- The gas boiler will be removed, LED lighting installed, and energy use reduced as part of the Council's carbon neutral 2030 target.
- Modern and welcoming offices and customer areas will be created, with Citizens Advice Richmond and a new Voluntary and Community Sector hub moving in.
- Bringing more services under one roof, cutting running costs, and creating opportunities to generate income from underused buildings and new office space.
The Council said the investment reflects its long-term commitment to staying in Twickenham, supporting local organisations, and providing a greener, more efficient Civic Centre for staff, residents and the wider community.
Residents will be kept updated as the project moves forward.
