Residents and businesses were given a behind-the-scenes look at the transformation of Twickenham Riverside this week as Richmond Council and Kier Construction hosted a community update on one of the borough's biggest regeneration projects.

The event gave neighbours the chance to meet the construction team, hear about the next phase of works, ask questions and share feedback directly with councillors and contractors.

Council leader Gareth Roberts said keeping residents informed throughout the project was "just as important" as the progress being made on site.

He said: "There's real momentum on site, but it's just as important that we keep residents and businesses informed as the project moves forward.

"Projects like this inevitably bring disruption as well as excitement, so it's vital that people can hear directly from us, ask questions and understand what's happening at every stage of the build.

"We've always said we wanted Twickenham Riverside to be a project delivered with the community, not simply for the community."

The update comes after the council announced last month that construction had entered a new phase, with the first visible structures beginning to emerge above ground.

The Council say that at Wharf Lane, more than 90 per cent of the below-ground work has now been completed, while around two-thirds of the new river defence wall and riverside steps are in place.

At Water Lane, only 10 per cent of the below-ground works remain, with around a quarter of the new building's structure now complete.

John Bolton, Regional Director at Kier Construction, said: "We feel privileged to be working with Richmond Council and partners to deliver one of the most significant investments in Twickenham town centre for a generation.

"We are committed to making a positive difference in the communities where we work, and this scheme will provide vital homes, retail space and public green spaces that will benefit residents and visitors for many generations to come."

The Twickenham Riverside project will deliver 45 new homes, including affordable housing, alongside new commercial space, improved access to the River Thames, landscaped public areas, children's play facilities, seating, pétanque pitches and a new riverside events space.

Richmond Council said it will continue to provide updates and hold engagement events for residents and businesses as work progresses.
