Richmond Council has offered its condolences to Alan Benson's family following the sad news that he passed away on Sunday 17 December.

Alan was an ambassador for local charity Ruils and did wider campaigning for accessible transport around London.

Cllr Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council said: "On behalf of the residents of Richmond upon Thames I want to send my thoughts and best wishes to Alan's family and friends.

"His passing is an enormous loss to those who knew him and the many more people whose lives have been impacted by his work.

"Alan has made a remarkable contribution to the lives of disabled and older people, particularly in London.

He added: "With a special interest in transport, Alan and the teams he worked with have achieved many things for accessible transport across the city.

"We are incredibly lucky to have had Alan as a resident of our borough, and to have had him as part of the small group who have Freedom of the Borough.

"We are particularly grateful for his long-term dedication to local independent-living charity Ruils.

"He leaves behind an immeasurable legacy through everything he has done to help make our borough and our city a fairer place."
