Rugby stars turn out for SporTedd's latest fundraising event to help raise £4,000
SporTedd's star-studded fundraising evenings returned last week (March 21) with three rugby icons taking centre stage: England's Rugby World Cup 2003 winner Lawrence Dallaglio, Scotland's Grand Slam winner Kenny Logan and former coach of London Irish, Harlequins and Italy – and current RFU Executive Director of Performance Rugby – Conor O'Shea.
And what timing it was: off the back of a gripping Guinness Six Nations, the three legends – quizzed by SporTedd's very own award-winning journalist Alison Kervin – took a look back at the previous weeks' action, a look ahead to the summer's Rugby World Cup in France and reminisced about their own careers.
Reflecting on the evening at Teddington's riverside restaurant The Wharf, SporTedd Chair Trevor Alldridge, said: "We are immensely proud to have had another wonderful SporTedd event, raising money for local causes and in the company of three sporting legends.
"We are, as ever, hugely grateful to our magnificent guests for giving up a Tuesday evening and thoroughly entertaining everyone there, happily posing for pictures and sharing their thoughts on this incredibly exciting rugby year.
"We are also thrilled to confirm the generosity of all in attendance secured £4,000 to enable us to continue supporting local sports community groups in the area, and are welcoming applications at this time."
The huge support for the evening's raffle came as no surprise, with rugby-focused prizes including tickets to Harlequins' Big Summer Kick-Off against Bath, the summer's Barbarians v World XV fixture at Twickenham and signed copies of books by Lawrence Dallaglio and Kenny Logan.
SporTedd also confirmed a special Ashes event for mid-May, with the guest-of-honour former England captain, Ashes winner and MCC stalwart: cricket legend Sir Andrew Strauss, which is expected to be a sell-out with the Ashes series against Australia, starting in June.
Spaces are expected to sell quickly for the event so residents interested are encouraged to book their place by visiting SporTedd's website here, where further information on the community organisations' impact throughout the Richmond borough can be found.
