Sandys Fishmongers has issued an update following the death of its owner, Stuart William Sandys, whose passing was announced on 30 November.

In a message shared this week, Jill Sandys, Stuart's mother, thanked the local community for its support:

"My family and I would like to express our gratitude to you all for your thoughts and condolences at the tragic loss of my son Stuart.

"Reading all the cards and messages and seeing all the flowers has brought great comfort to us all.

"I would like to extend our many thanks for the loyalty shown from all of our many customers, past and present."

The Sandys Fishmongers team has also released a statement, thanking customers for their kindness and patience during what it described as an "incredibly difficult time".

They confirmed that the shop will remain closed over the Christmas period and until further notice, apologising for any inconvenience caused.

The statement added that any pre-paid orders will not be fulfilled, but that refunds will be processed as soon as possible.

Customers have been asked for patience, as there may be some delays while the team works through them.

The messages come as details of Mr Sandys' memorial were revealed last week.

Sandys Fishmongers has remained temporarily closed since the announcement of his passing.
