Richmond Park MP Sarah Olney welcomes Kew Railway Bridge works but hopes they are the "last for a very long time."

From September to October, Network Rail is set to carry out repairs on the bridge between Kew Gardens and Gunnersbury stations, affecting Overground and District line services from Richmond Station.

Simon Milburn, Network Rail Anglia infrastructure director, previously said: "We need to replace the deteriorating wheel timbers on Kew Railway Bridge so that we can continue to run trains over the River Thames safely and reliably in future.

"This is a vital job that will help to keep this wonderful heritage structure operating as a key part of these busy railway lines. We will also use this closure to carry out other maintenance work to help deliver a reliable service for our customers."

In response to the scheduled works, Olney commented: "Residents are at the end of their tether. Businesses are losing thousands in passing trade and local people are missing appointments, school, or work because of the disruption.

"Our community has been beyond patient, but these delays have been disastrous.

"The upgrades are a light at the end of the tunnel, but after so many weeks of delays, Network Rail must make certain these closures are the last for a very long time.
