School of Rock granted approval for new signs at former Barclays Bank in Twickenham

School of Rock's plans to install new signs at the former Barclays Bank building on York Street, Twickenham, has been approved by Richmond Council.
The multinational music school put forward plans in January 2025 after finalising a master franchise agreement in the UK in May last year which would see the company develop 30 new schools across the country over the next 11 years.
School of Rock's plans to bring its first UK location to Twickenham have been met with opposition from another local rock school.
Started in the USA in 1998, the move from School of Rock would bring the company its first location in the UK.
Via its website, the music school state: "School of Rock is the world's largest and most trusted multi-location music school with tens of thousands of musicians going through our classes, workshops, camps and performance programs every day.
"Founded as a single school in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1998, School of Rock now has over 385 locations in 16 different countries, helping aspiring musicians master skills, unleash creativity, and develop tools they need to thrive in life.
"Our leadership team members combine business savvy, a passion for music and a drive to help children succeed."
As the site is a listed building, School of Rock must submit a separate Listed Building Consent (LBC) application as part of the approval requirements.
Built in 1902-3, the former bank branch became a Grade II Listed Building in May 1983.
