A Jack Russell called Betty, who went missing from her Hampton Hill home on Thursday morning, has been found safe.

The seven-year-old was found at Hanworth Air Park, some two miles away, which would have involved crossing a busy roundabout on the A316.

Her delighted owner, Virginia Lewis, said she cannot believe the family pet made the journey on her own.

She had no collar on when she went missing as it had been taken off because her neck was sore due to a recent tick bite.

As a result, the people who found her had no idea who to contact. However, they took her in overnight and took her to the vet this morning – Friday.

Betty was chipped which meant the vet, who was full of praise of the people who found her, was able to trace Betty's owner.

Virginia said: "I got a call to say she had been handed in. How she got to Feltham I have no idea, but we were very lucky that some guys found her wandering around the Air Park there.

"She stayed the night with them and they took her to the vet this morning. They kindly handed her in and we then got the call to race over there.

"There is no way she could have walked there from here, so she must have been taken there by somebody. Who knows, but luckily she is absolutely fine.

"We are enormously grateful to the people who found her. It's a happy ending."
