Richmond's Sir David Attenborough has been knighted today – for the second time.

The renowned environmental and wildlife campaigner was awarded his Knight Grand Cross honour by the Prince of Wales in Windsor.

The 96-year-old who has led a global debate on the need to tackle climate change was given the award in recognition of his services to conservation and television broadcasting.

Sir David, who is a patron of the Friends of Richmond Park, was first knighted by the Queen in 1985, while the Knight of the Grand Cross is a higher rank.

Just last week, another patron of the charity, Clare Balding, was named a CBE in the Queen's birthday honours.

Sir David is a member of the Earthshot Prize council, an initiative launched by the Duke of Cambridge to find solutions to environmental issues.

He featured in a segment of the Platinum Party at the Palace, the Platinum Jubilee concert held outside Buckingham Palace in London on June 4.

William highlighted the efforts of "visionary environmentalists" during this section of the show, which saw a clip of Sir David projected on to Buckingham Palace.
