A 16-year-old boy is due to appear in court later today after being charged with the murder of a teenager studying at Richmond College.

Hazrat Wali, aged 18, died on Tuesday after the incident on Craneford Way, Twickenham, which was witnessed by schoolchildren taking part in rugby training nearby.

The Metropolitan Police said a 16-year-old boy from Hammersmith and Fulham was charged with murder on Friday and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Hazrat – an Afghan refugee who came to the UK two years ago and lived in Notting Hill– died as a result of being stabbed.

The teenager was attacked at around 4.45pm on Tuesday and died in hospital around an hour later.

The scene of the attack is yards from Richmond College and is close to several other local schools.

The police and councillors held a public meeting with local residents on Friday evening to offer reassurance. Richmond College has stepped up security and is offering counselling and other support to students.

It is understood that several of people involved in the confrontation filmed the stabbing. The police have appealed to those involved not to post the video on social media.

Anyone who has information or footage of the incident is asked to call police on 101, or tweet @MetCC quoting 5697/12OCT. Alternatively, information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
