The sky turned red over south west London this morning in breath-taking images captured by local photographers.

Ruth Wadey, a well-known local photographer and artist, posted a selection of spectacular images which captured a fabulous vista of water and trees against the background of a stunning red and orange glow.

Ruth, aged 76, wrote alongside the pictures, which attracted many likes: "We were treated with another spectacular #sunrise at Twickenham this morning.

"Look on the new day as another special gift from your Creator, Another golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday."

In response to fans of the images, she added: "One of the most amazing skies I have seen."

Fellow local photographer, Sue Lindenberg, who is well-known for her images from the Royal Parks, posted her own spectacular image of sunrise, drawing equally admiring comments.

According to sailors' folklore "Red sky in the morning means shepherds warning". It normally signifies that the good weather has passed, so beware wet and windy weather on the horizon and, potentially, even some thunderstorms.
