The footbridge over St Margarets Railway Station has reopened after months of restoration work.

It was closed in late 2020 by Network Rail whose contractors carried out repairs including reinforcing the stair treads and repainting.

The bridge spans the railway line and gives residents living around Winchester Road an easy route over to Amyand Park Road.

The completion of the project has been welcomed by local councillors.

Transport and Air Quality Committee chair Cllr Alexander Ehmann said: "I'm pleased to say it looks splendid.

"Thanks to works undertaken on it, it looks set to serve our residents for many more years."

The Mayor of Richmond Cllr Geoff Acton said: "I was so pleased to join senior transport planner Sidonie Forest-Brown and David Wilber of South Western Railway to celebrate the completion of the footbridge joining Drummond Place and Amyand Park Road in St Margarets.

"While there, users were thrilled about its opening now fully re-painted and looking splendid!"
