A 10-year-old boy from Teddington has seen his swimming challenge raise more than £1,000 which will change the life of a child with a brain tumour for a whole year.

Jack Wright's challenge was in aid of Tom's Trust, an independent charity providing mental health support to children with brain tumours in the UK.

Jack's fundraiser involved him swimming for one hour every day for five days at his local pool, the Lensbury Resort, in July.

In total the schoolboy raised an impressive £1,060, surpassing his target of £1,000, whilst also beating his swimming goal of 10,000 metres, as he achieved a total of 10,150.

Commenting on his remarkable achievement, Jack who lives with his mum, dad and sister said: "I chose to raise money for Tom's Trust because it is a brilliant charity which helps children and their families at a really difficult time. I love to swim, and decided I would challenge myself and hoped to raise money for Tom's Trust at the same time.

"After the first two lengths each day it felt daunting but completing the challenge was fun and I am so happy to have done it. I'm so pleased to have been able to raise this money for children who need help."

The money raised will fund the care of a Tom's Trust psychologist who will be able to give mental health support to a child with a brain tumour, as well as their family, for a full year.

Debs Mitchell, Co-Founder of Tom's Trust, added: "Jack has raised enough to support one newly diagnosed child and their whole family for a year – that support wouldn't be there without Jack doing this challenge so he has completely changed the lives of this family. We are so grateful to him for thinking of Tom's Trust."
