Twickenham beer shop applies to stay open during rugby days

A craft beer market in Twickenham has put forward an application to allow it to stay open during rugby match days.
Founded by Linda Birch, Brewery Market has been serving Twickenham residents since 2018, known for its wide selection of craft beers.
Speaking to Twickenham Nub News, Birch says she wants to offer a more relaxed and alternative space for fans to escape crowds during rugby fixtures at the Allianz Stadium.
"We realised that one of our restrictions is actually to do with rugby days," the owner explained. "We honestly thought our pavement licence would override that rule, but it doesn't."
For the last three years, Birch and Brewery Market have been working closely with Richmond Council's local licensing team, who Birch says have been "amazing, supportive, and clear" in guiding them through the process of managing operations around game days.
Through applying for a Temporary Event Notices (TENs) on rugby days, this will hopefully allow the business to trade without causing disruptions to neighbours.
Birch added: "We have got a history of managing crowds on that day [during rugby fixtures at the Allianz Stadium].
"We don't get really busy anyways which is really good.
"It's a very nice, calm venue on rugby days, its a bit of something different for people to get away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds because the pubs can get super busy."

In addition, the Brewery Market wants to remove the requirement to have a licensed door supervisor (SIA) after midnight during its Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve events.
"We just want to join in with the town," Birch continued.
"We just want to be treated fairly and we have proven that we're not an off-license per say...people are not going to come here and buy one or two 'tinies' and sit outside, get drunk and cause problems with the neighbours."
Brewery Market's operating hours will remain unchanged, from 11am to 11:30pm.
The closing date for representations on the application is Thursday, 5 June 2025.
