Couples across Richmond upon Thames are being given the chance to be part of local history as Richmond Council launches a special wedding offer to celebrate 100 years of York House as a public building.

To mark the centenary in 2026, the council is offering 100 couples the opportunity to tie the knot at the historic Twickenham venue at a discounted rate, with ceremonies taking place between July and September next year.

Selected dates will be made available in two of York House's best-known ceremony spaces, the elegant Salon and the striking Winter Garden, with couples able to save up to 40 per cent on the normal ceremony cost.

Located in the heart of Twickenham, York House has served as one of the borough's most recognisable civic buildings since opening to the public in 1926.

The 17th-century property is known for its grand interiors and picturesque gardens that stretch down towards the River Thames, making it one of the area's most sought-after wedding locations.

The Salon, positioned at the front of the building, offers an ornate setting overlooking the main driveway, while the Winter Garden at the rear features an original glass-domed roof and views across the surrounding gardens.

The special centenary weddings have been designed as a straightforward and stress-free option for couples wanting a simple ceremony in a memorable local landmark while becoming part of a once-in-a-generation celebration.

Each booking includes use of the ceremony room for one hour alongside the registrar fee.

Councillor Jim Millard, Deputy Leader of Richmond Council and Lead Member for Finance and Resources, said: "York House has been at the heart of life in Richmond upon Thames for 100 years, from civic occasions to personal milestones.

"This centenary is a chance to celebrate that history in a very special way, by welcoming 100 couples to begin their married lives here as part of that legacy."

Only 100 ceremonies are available as part of the promotion, with bookings being offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Couples interested in taking part in the "100 Years of York House" celebration can find further details, including available dates and booking information, through the council website here.
