A discount store in Twickenham is set to close at the end of April due to not being able to afford the rent.

Home Needs, a place for all your essentials at a low cost, is preparing to vacate the premises after a short run by having a clearance sale of 50% off its stock.

The store offers a wide range of low-cost household essentials, from luggage and storage boxes to cleaning products and sweets.

The unit on King Street was formally a Poundland, which shut down in October 2025 following the closure of 68 stores across the UK.

The back-to-back closures of these stores have raised concerns among local residents about the sustainability of businesses on Twickenham's busy high street.

Store manager Majo Savwarei is disheartened that they have to go but said "rent is too high".

Savwarei believes that the closing down clearance signs have encouraged more people to shop in their store and he believes 10% more customers are shopping there each day.

A local resident said: "I love shopping here, it's quick, easy and always has cheap alternatives."

Fiona, another local resident, said: "I think it's ridiculous that it is closing down, with the cost of everything these days being so extortionate, I know I rely on shops like these for my essentials, they keep me going."

The manager is unaware of what will replace Home Needs but believes there is a strong demand for another convenience store in the area, as few similar options remain nearby.

The store is continuing its discounts and are embracing the rush of customers, until they move on.

Once the shop closes, its remaining stock will be placed into storage while the business searches for a new location.

Local residents of Twickenham still have time to take advantage of the discounts before the store closes.
