As part of their Community Engagement Project, Hampton Kempton Waterworks Railway (HKWR) volunteers recently completed their new visitor hub, designed for local schools, educational institutions, and visitors to learn more about HKWR's rich industrial history.

To support the project Freemasons at Twickenham Lodge provided some funding to help provide essential furniture and visual displays that tell the story of how the railway played a vital part in providing clean drinking water to London in the early 20th century.

Robert Heath, treasurer of Twickenham Lodge presented a cheque to David Allan, President of HKWR who said: "We are delighted to receive this donation that will make such a difference to HKWR's endeavours to further inspire and engage with the local community about the railway's historical purpose, as well as its future ambitious restoration plans."

HKWR is embarking on a £1.8 million fundraising programme to further extend and reinstate the railway to give visitors a more enhanced and interesting steam passenger journey through open country and woodlands and pass by a reservoir that is a bird sanctuary and Site of Special Scientific Interest.
