Sandys Fishmonger Ltd has announced the sudden death of its owner and manager, Stuart Sandys, describing him as the "absolute heart" of the Twickenham business.

In a statement via Facebook, the company said: "We are profoundly shocked and deeply saddened to announce that Stuart Sandys, owner, manager and absolute heart of Sandys Fishmongers, has passed away suddenly this weekend.

"The shop will remain closed for the time being but we will keep everyone updated over the coming days via our website and social media platforms.

"We appreciate your thoughts and prayers, and ask for privacy during this difficult time. RIP Stuart Sandys 1973–2025."

Sandys Fishmongers, based on King Street, is one of Twickenham's most recognised independent shops, well known for its fresh fish and ties to the community.

Although the news of Mr Sandys' death was revealed yesterday (Sunday, 30 November), the post has already received over 180 comments with condolences from locals.

One Facebook user said: "Really sad to hear of such big loss. We have known Stuart for many many years, a fantastic man, he will be missed by everyone.

"Sending our love and our condolences to the family and Sandys friends."

Munira Wilson commented: "I'm so very sorry to read this tragic news. Thinking of you all at this time. RIP Stuart x."

Before his passing Mr Sandys was also the Discover Twickenham Business Improvement District (BID) Director.

The BID said: "Such sad news. Stuart was a great guy and wonderful ambassador of Twickenham.

"Long time director of Discover Twickenham BID and we will miss his solid advice and support.

"Condolences to his family and the team at Sandys Fishmongers."

Further updates on reopening arrangements will be shared by the business in due course.
