Twickenham: Older residents could claim Attendance Allowance worth thousands a year

Richmond Council is encouraging older residents to apply for Attendance Allowance worth up to £5,644 a year.
Attendance Allowance is additional income that is applied for after reaching State Pension Age and for individuals in need of help with care, regular support or assistance.
The council say It ignores any income or savings residents may have and is available to everyone of pension age who has needed support with their daily activities for at least six months.
Eligibility:
- You have a disability or illness, including mental and physical disabilities
- Your condition means you need someone to help look after you
Depending on the level of care needed, the rates are between £72.65 and £108.55 a week, which is payable every four weeks.
People who qualify for Attendance Allowance may also be eligible for additional Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction.
Residents can apply for Attendance Allowance by ringing the Department for Work and Pensions helpline on 0800 731 0122 to request a claim form.
