A team of volunteers collecting items for Afghan refugees has changed the focus of their appeal towards toiletries and personal health products.

The Friends of Twickenham Green and The United Reformed Church have joined together to collect and deliver items to families that have arrived in recent days.

Initially, they were asking for clothes, shoes, toys, books and games, however refugee organisations say they already have all they need under these headings.

As a result, the Twickenham groups are asking people to focus on donating toiletries, specifically - toothpaste/toothbrushes; deodorant; menstrual products; soap/shampoo/conditioner; hand sanitiser; and moisturiser.

The United Reformed Church in First Cross Road is open at the following times for donations:-

Wednesday, 1st September 11:00 to 1 pm

Thursday, 2nd September 10:00 to 12 midday

Saturday, 4th September 12:00 to 2.00 pm

Sunday, 5th September 11:30 to 12:30 pm

The plan is to take items to the Afghanistan and Central Asian Association in Feltham.

Nub News has detailed how people across the area have already have provided a magnificent response to requests for donations to help Afghan refugees, including many children, arriving in the UK.

At the same time, Richmond Borough Council has issued a plea to landlords to provide suitable rented accommodation backed by a series of incentives.
