Twickenham primary school plans to change car park entrances to 'improve safeguarding'
A Twickenham primary school has submitted plans to change its entrances to "improve safeguarding" on site.
If approved, the scheme will see Nelson Primary School have a new gate built onto Nelson Road.
Meanwhile St Vincent Road will be designated a 'school street' and the existing gates towards the north end of the road would be used as the main pupil and pedestrian entrance.
"The proposal seeks to enhance the vehicular and pedestrian access to the school and improve safeguarding by providing a separate access route between pedestrians and cars during school opening and closing hours," the application explained.
"Automated entrance gates are to be incorporated to the boundary treatment of the school grounds, with additional fencing and manually operated gates to the school car park - allowing for vehicular access to the side of the school whilst providing a safe circulation route for staff, students and parents."
In its application to Richmond Council, Latchmere Academy Trust said the same number of existing car park spaces are to be retained.
The application continued: "Adjacent to the school grounds is St Vincent Road which is to be designated as a 'School Street' as part of the proposal.
"The existing gates towards the north end of the road are to be used as the main pupil / pedestrian entrance – this will help mitigate the pedestrian traffic that usually occurs towards the main entrance of the school building."
