A maths whizz from Twickenham has won the title of World Champion at a global mathematics competition.
Rohan, 12, from Newland House School on Waldegrave Park, came top out of 500 other Year 8 competitors at this year's World Maths Day on May 5.
He scored a total of 1135 points, beating his rival in second place, from N.A.Model High School Sahiwal in Pakistan, by 70 points.
Rohan said, "I really enjoyed World Maths Day and I particularly loved the challenge of competing on the harder levels against other children from around the world."
The school as a whole did fantastically well, with Year 7 collectively scooping first in the World and Year 5 first in the UK.
The World Maths Day challenge is a virtual competition and this year over one million students from 17,000 schools across 200 countries participated.
The challenge holds the world record for the most participants in an online mathematics competition.
Students log in and complete 20 levels of 60-second live maths games, earning 1 point for each question answered correctly.
An online Hall of Fame tracked points throughout the competition with prizes awarded to the top pupils and schools across the globe.
Rohan talked about the moment he realised he'd won the competition on local SW London radio station, Jackie Radio! Tune in here.
Graham Frickers, event organiser at 3P Learning which created the competition's virtual platform, said: "The response to this year's competition has been incredible – there is a global buzz about maths.
"Creating a worldwide arena means kids from anywhere in the UK can compete against their peers from both the UK and across the globe.
"It's a tough competition and I'm delighted to congratulate our 10 UK champions for their significant achievements."
Congratulations to Rohan, and all maths lovers who participated!
