A Twickenham resident is "disgusted" with litter along the A316 between Hospital Bridge Roundabout and Twickenham Stadium Roundabout, which they claim has been left there for weeks.

After driving on the A316 on this past weekend, Stefka Grantcharova spotted rubbish such as food containers, plastic beer mugs and pieces of paper after the grass in that section was cut.

She said: "It's along a busy route that thousands of people use every day, including residents, commuters and visitors, yet it looks completely neglected.

"This isn't just an eyesore. Seeing rubbish like this every day has a real impact on mental health.

"It creates frustration, stress and anxiety for people who live nearby or travel this route regularly, especially when nothing seems to be done about it.

"We just can't cope anymore. I'm feeling emotional about it as it doesn't seem to bother anyone as much as it does a handful of us."

Grantcharova, who does litter-picking herself, said she initially reported the litter to TfL (Transport for London) on its litter reporting app Streetcare, but was told it was not TfL's responsibility.

"We just can't cope anymore," she added. "I'm feeling emotional about it as it doesn't seem to bother anyone as much as it does a handful of us."

A Richmond Council spokesperson told Nub News: "We don't take any form of littering lightly, and we're actively working with TfL and local partners to carry out a clean-up along the A316 as soon as it is safe to do so.

"The A316 is a TfL-managed road and, because traffic moves at 40mph, litter on the central reservation can only be cleared when road closures are in place so crews can work safely.

"Our teams carry out cleansing and try to coordinate this with planned road closures wherever possible, although access can sometimes be limited.

"We also work closely with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to clean any match-day footprint following events at Allianz Stadium."

The Council also said that Councillor Gareth Roberts, in his role as a London Assembly member, has raised the matter with TfL to find a solution that is both 'practical and safe'.
