Twickenham’s Guinness World Records: From giant scrums to speedy laundry

As Guinness World Records (GWR) marks 70 years since its first edition was published on 27 August 1955, let's take a look at some memorable ones from Twickenham.
1. Edward & Rowan Draper – Fastest time to hang up ten items of clothing as a due
At the Turk's Head pub in Twickenham in March 2022, Edward Draper and his son Rowan claimed the record for the fastest time to hang up ten items of clothing as a team of two in just 56.87 seconds – beating the previous record of over a minute.
2. James Whistler – Fastest marathon dressed as a Harlequin
At the 2024 London Marathon, Twickenham's James Whistler set the record for the fastest marathon dressed as a Harlequin, proudly running in tribute to his beloved rugby team.

3. Lexi Chambers – First to complete 10 ultra-marathons in 10 days in wheelchair
Army veteran and former nurse Lexi Chambers, who began her journey in Twickenham, made history in August 2025 by completing 10 ultra-marathons in 10 days using a wheelchair – a world-first feat covering 322 miles. Lexi's achievement secured her six world records and global recognition.
4. Cancer Research UK – Most people to abseil in 12 hours
On 6 March 2005, 1,350 people abseiled down the outer wall of Twickenham Stadium in 12 hours, setting a fundraising record for Cancer Research UK.
5. Aviva & Premiership Rugby – Largest maths equation
Before a Premiership Rugby final on 30 May 2015, 323 participants, mainly local schoolchildren, set the record for the longest human representation of a mathematical equation, stretching across the Twickenham pitch at 125.8m long.

6. Rugby World Cup – The world's largest scrum
On 12 September 2014, a staggering 1,008 people packed into Twickenham Stadium to form the world's largest scrum, celebrating tickets going on sale for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Rugby greats including Lawrence Dallaglio, Will Greenwood and Warren Gatland joined fans in the record attempt.
7. Honda UK – Largest mosaic made of rugby balls
In 2022, Honda UK marked its partnership with England Rugby by creating the largest rugby ball logo mosaic ever recorded, using 2,030 rugby balls inside Twickenham Stadium.
