Bearcat Comedy Club - Turks Head, St Margarets

On Saturday night – January 8 - the famous club continues its proud record of bringing top TV talent to the stage.

Paul Tonkinson has twice been named the Time Out Comedian of the Year and combines effervescent physicality and skillful impressions.

His many TV and radio performances include joining the mighty Michael McIntyre as a special guest on arena shows in the UK and around the world.

Also on the bill is Australian 'heavy metal humourist' Steve Hughes, who includes an appearance on Live at the Apollo on his CV along with an early career as a thrash metal drummer.

At just 24, Christopher Macarthur-Boyd has been touted as the future of Scottish comedy. Born and bred in Glasgow, Christopher has performed stand-up internationally everywhere from downtown Toronto to the Perth and Adelaide Fringe Festivals in Australia.

Raul Kohli's upbringing in Newcastle has forged a surreal world view that upends ethnicity, culture and class.

World Rugby Museum – Twickenham Stadium

A special exhibition chronicles the colourful history of the Rugby Football Union, one of the world's oldest sporting institutions, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

The exhibition describes how a small group of men created the union at Pall Mall in 1871 and helped arrange the world's first international.

Star items include a 1:1000th scale model of Twickenham Stadium, a letter from the King and articles from the very first 1871 meeting.

It describes how Twickenham Stadium saved English Rugby and, more recently, the rise of the Red Roses, who have blazed a trail for the women's game.

The museum is also hosting an exhibition celebrating the world's first inclusive rugby club, the Kings Cross Steelers. From the club's inception in November 1995 to the emergence of the international gay rugby scene, the exhibition shines a light on the club's achievements to date.

Most recently, the club have found further fame through the critically-acclaimed film Steelers.

Mary Wallace Theatre – Twickenham

The theatre is taking bookings for 'Ben Hur', which follows Daniel Veil and his three (mostly) willing friends, Crystal, Omar and Edgar, as they attempt to re-create the famous biblical epic on the amateur stage.

Daniel has adapted, directed, designed and choreographed the whole piece.

Exchange, Twickenham

The venue is taking bookings for events later this month, including Emily Chappell In Conversation on January 27.

The inspirational adventurer and endurance cyclist discusses her acclaimed books and remarkable life story at her first-ever live event in Twickenham.

In February, shows include Gary Crowley presents an evening in conversation with Mick Talbot (The Style Council / Dexy's Midnight Runners) and Debsey Wykes (Dolly Mixture / St Etienne) who will recall the heady days of the 1980s music scene.

Richmond Theatre

Tonight – January 6 – 'McCartney The Songbook' takes to the stage to recreate music masterworks spanning over six decades.

Starring Peter John Jackson, the show offers a musical journey through Sir Paul's career from the Fab Four to the Wings days and his prolific solo career.

With authentic costume and instrumentation, complete with a fantastic live band, the show features over 40 monster hits including Can't Buy Me Love, Yesterday, Live and Let Die, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Hey Jude and Band On The Run.

On Saturday - January 8 - the Johnny Cash Roadshow is back featuring Clive John as the Man in Black, alongside the legendary 'June Carter' (Meghan Thomas).

Along with favourites such as Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, Get Rhythm, Orange Blossom Special and A Boy Named Sue, the show digs deeper into the Cash catalogue.

On Tuesday - January 11 - cheer on Hugh Jackman, lust after Zac Efron and hiss Rebecca Ferguson for a sing-a-long version of The Greatest Showman.

The live host will teach everyone a unique set of dance moves, show you how to use our interactive prop bags, and also get you to practice your cheers, your boos and even a few wolf whistles. Fancy dress is strongly encouraged and full audience participation essential.

Orange Tree Theatre

There are hopes that performances of Terence Rattigan's 'While the Sun Shines' will resume following cancellations due to Covid-19.

The theatre recently announced: "Despite rigorous Covid safety procedures in place, we regret to say members of the company have tested positive and are having to isolate.

"We have therefore had cancel the performances on 4, 5 and 6 January. We realise what a disappointment this will be, but of course the safety of our audiences and our team is of the utmost priority, and we plan to resume performances as soon as possible."

Bookings are being taken via the theatre's website from Friday – January 7 – through to January 15.

RSPB - Birds of Bhutan - Land of the Thunder Dragon – January 11, 7.30pm

Out of reach and restricted to foreign visitors until recently, Bhutan is a paradise for birders and photographers. Richard Baines is offering a Zoom talk describing his recent trip featuring a range of speciality birds & culture.

The experienced ornithologist and ecologist has been studying and working as a nature guide and in wildlife conservation for over 30 years.
