The fantastic global success of Ted Lasso, which is filmed in and around Richmond and Twickenham, has triggered a massive demand for merchandise.

The comedy, which is about an America college football coach who is hired as the manager of a fictional Premiership club AFC Richmond, is the most popular series on the Apple TV+ streaming channel.

Fans can buy a wide range of 55 Lasso-themed Christmas gifts including a replica AFC Richmond football shirt, baseball caps, tee-shirts and hoodies inscribed with the word Lasso's favourite mantra BELIEVE and even boot-shaped beer glasses and a Ted Lasso colouring book.

In the series, fans of AFC Richmond are seen in a pub called The Crown and Anchor on Richmond Green, which in real life is The Princes's Head, supping a 'boot of beer.' Other local familiar venues spotted in the series include Richmond Theatre and the Gaucho restaurant.

Other available gifts include Be A Goldfish themed tee-shirts, coffee cups, water bottles, AFC Richmond track suit top and a shirt carrying the name of club captain Roy Kent, played by Brett Goldstein and said to be based on former Manchester United legend Roy Keane. There's even a mask of Ted's distinctive moustache!

Non-football items include a version of the dangly, sparkling earrings worn by the club owner Rebecca Welton, who is played Hannah Waddingham.

One US website suggested the themed products are likely to be big sellers, given the popularity of the series in the US and around the world.

It wrote: "At a time when it seems like the world is on fire and everyone has gone completely insane, Ted Lasso proved to be exactly what we needed in our lives.

"Instead of cynical or mean-spirited comedy, Ted Lasso captured the hearts of viewers around the world with oodles of positivity, charm, and heart-warming dad energy."

The first two series of Ted Lasso were filmed on location featuring familiar areas in both Richmond and Twickenham as well as filming at West London film studios in Hayes, Crystal Palace's ground and Fulham's Craven Cottage. A third series is due to start filming in January.

The website adds: "Right now, it feels like the world is so, so broken, and Ted Lasso is exactly the escape we all needed. It's a show that makes you want to believe in people again, and we can't get enough Ted in our lives.

"The best Ted Lasso gifts include T-shirts, AFC merchandise, stickers, posters and collectibles featuring the characters and quotes that made us fall in love with this show.

"We really think the coach himself would approve of these Ted Lasso gift ideas. In the world of Ted Lasso, people really listen to each other, and every episode is filled with nuggets of pure joy. While we're all sad that season two is over, season three filming kicks off in January 2022.

"It makes sense that as we head on into holiday gifting season that we want to spread a little Ted around to our friends and family. For everyone that believes like we do, we created the ultimate Ted Lasso-themed gift guide for all the Teds, Danis, Coach Beards, Roy Kents, Keelys and Rebeccas in our lives."

The show, which stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso was nominated for 20 Emmy awards and won seven, including outstanding actor in a comedy series for Sudeikis and outstanding supporting actress for the UK's Hannah Waddingham, as well as a nomination for Marcus Mumford, who helped compose the music.

The New York website selling the merchandise states it sells to UK-based consumers with shipping from this country.
