Last night (30 May), Sarah Olney and Munira Wilson, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidates for Richmond Park and Twickenham, brought together more than a hundred campaigners at Duke Street Church, Richmond, to lay out their plans for the campaign.

Olney urged activists not to forget the years of 'chaos' and 'broken promises' in No.10, while Wilson emphasised the 'positive' change that could come by re-electing the ex MPs.

The pair were joined by Paul Kohler, candidate for Wimbledon, who in 2019 missed winning the seat by 628 votes and is looking to win on 4 July.

Esher and Walton's Lib Dem candidate, Monica Harding, who decreased the Conservative's majority by almost 90% at the last election, also made a virtual appearance.

Olney commented: "This Conservative Government has brought the country to the point of collapse. Our public services have been slashed to the bone, our rivers are being poisoned, and hardworking people's budgets have been stretched beyond breaking point.

"Their plan isn't working. Families are struggling, local shops are closing, and residents tell me they no longer feel safe walking the streets at night.

"I'm fighting for a return to community policing, more support for those worst affected by the cost of living crisis, and tighter controls on giants like Thames Water and Heathrow to stop them damaging our community.

"On 4th July, we need to end the chaos and bring some sense back to Westminster.

Wilson commented: "The past ten years of Conservative Government have been mired in scandal, incompetence and chaos.

"The British people are crying out for change and across the Blue Wall, Liberal Democrat candidates are primed to deliver it.

"By electing a Liberal Democrat MP, residents are electing a local champion. Someone who will listen to their concerns, and will fight for their interests in Parliament and beyond.

"More than ever, this country needs strong liberal voices and over the next few weeks, we will be campaigning to ensure that lots more Liberal Democrat MPs take their place in Westminster."

Sarah Olney for the Liberal Democrats will be running against four other candidates for Richmond Park's Parliament seat on 4 July 2024, after Rishi Sunak announced a general election.
