TWICKENHAM: General election 2024 live from the count

This page will be providing live general election updates throughout the night, with reporters on the ground at St Mary's University where the count for Twickenham and Richmond Park is underway.

Friday 5 July

3:20am

Sarah Olney is declared the MP for Richmond Park constituency, receiving 28,528 votes for 54.4%.

"The Liberal Democrats are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the new Parliament," she told the crowd.

3:02am

Lib Dem Munira Wilson remains Twickenham's MP with 56.0% of the vote. Following her 30,185 votes is Conservative Jonathan Hulley with 8,728 votes.

2:46am

Ed Davey holds onto Kingston & Surbiton securing 25,870 votes overall: 6,746 votes more than in 2019.

2:12am

Kingston and Surbiton sees 50,818 votes cast: a turnout rate of 66%.

2:08am

The Conservatives see their first wins of the evening in Rayleigh and Wickford and neighbouring constituency Castle Point in south Essex.

1:40am

The Liberal Democrats win their first seat in Harrogate and Knaresborough.

1:26am 

BBC first show Lib Dem leader Ed Davey at the Kingston & Surbiton count in Chessington as commentators describe the candidate's campaign as "a midlife crisis on camera".

All nine seats announced so far have gone to Labour, mostly in the North East.

1:21am

Richmond Park's turnout is announced as 69.9%.

1:06am

Twickenham's voter turnout is confirmed as 71.8%, while Richmond Park is yet to be confirmed.

12:35am

Labour wins five seats nationwide: four holds, and one new seat in Swindon South.

12:11am

Labour's Tom Bruce is the first candidate to arrive at the count.

Mr Bruce, who is running in Twickenham constituency, says: "The exit polls seem to be incredibly positive for the Labour Party, [I'm] really excited to be a part of that."

Thursday 4 July

11:16pm

10:00pm

The count begins as polling stations close across the country. Results for the local constituencies of Twickenham and Richmond Park are expected between 3am and 4am.
