A Level Results: Students across the borough celebrate achievements

Students across the borough received their A-level results today (August 17). 

Nationally, the proportion of A or A* grades is 27.2% which is down from a peak of 44.8% during the pandemic.

According to UCAS, 79% of those receiving results gained a place at their first choice university. 

Schools across Twickenham and Richmond, such as those listed below, have shared their excellent results.

Orleans Park:

Sixth form students at Orleans Park achieved 72% A*/B grades and 38% A*/A grades across all subjects, which exceeds the national trend of 26%.

Furthermore, 12% of all grades were at an A* and 91% of grades were A*-C, which exceeds the national trend of 75%. 

They also have had a significant proportion of students achieve places at top universities, including two students who have accepted places at the University of Oxford. 

Amelia will be studying German and Matthew, who achieved four A*'s, will be studying medicine. 

As well as this they also have students going on to attend art colleges and several students heading straight into careers and apprenticeships. 

In a statement, the headteacher, Mrs K Pacey, said: "These results reflect the motivation, commitment, hard work and dedication of our students and staff. Supported by parents and Governors to ensure our Sixth Form continues its outstanding provision for all students."

St Richard Reynolds Catholic College: 

Almost 60% of grades at St Richard Reynolds were A*-B, with well over 80% of grades at grade C or above.

Richard Burke, Principal of the College said: "Our students' success is always a result of many factors, not least the dedication and hard work of our staff who day in day out create a loving, challenging and inspiring culture based predominantly on the positive relationships they develop with all around them.  

"We also highly value and appreciate the support of our parents and carers, acknowledging and highlighting this priceless partnership that helps to generate consistently strong outcomes for young people."

Alice McCarthy attained A*s in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry and will continue her studies in the United States at Princeton University. 

Waldegrave School:

43% of all grades achieved were A*/A and 70% of grades fell into the A*-B category. 

Furthermore, 25% of students achieved at least three A*/A grades. 

In a statement, the Headteacher, Ms Tongue, said: "Congratulations to our A level students who have again obtained excellent results, an achievement all the more commendable when we remember that this cohort did not sit public exams at GCSE due to Covid disruption.

"The results achieved today demonstrate our students' hard work and commitment to their studies. We are incredibly proud of them all. At Waldegrave, we want to support each student in their aspirations so it is incredibly exciting to see the wide range of courses and careers that our students have chosen to pursue."

Three students from the school have secured places at Oxford and Camrdbige. 

Hassan Akram (studying History and Politics) and Cathryn Head (studying Music) have both secured places at the University of Oxford.

Cassia Deakins has secured a place to study Geography at the University of Cambridge. 

Christs School:

Results at Christ's School, in Richmond, bucked the London trend with well over 30% of students achieving the top A* and A grades. 

The Head of Sixth Form said: "I would like to congratulate all of our students. It has been a privilege to work with our students and we are thrilled that they have received the recognition they deserve for all of their hard work. 

"These results are fully earned and a credit to our students, the quality and commitment of our staff, and the strong relationships that exist between our students, teachers, and the sixth form leadership team. Given this is the first time our students have faced formal examinations they have performed fantastically and we wish them every success as they head to universities across the country".

Two students from the school have secured places at Oxford and Cambridge, with Dominic T (3 A*'s) going to study Economics at the University of Cambridge and Abigail T (A*AB) going to study Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford.

The Headteacher, Helen Dixon said: "Today we have celebrated the outstanding achievements of our students. We are very proud of their tenacity, hard work and focus which, combined with the efforts of our fantastic teaching staff and Sixth Form leadership team, have delivered these fantastic results".

92% of results at Radnor House, in Twickenham, fell in the A* - C bracket.

Principal, Darryl Wideman, said: Principal, Darryl Wideman, said, "Given everything this cohort of pupils has had to face, including the cancellation of their GCSE exams in 2021, they can feel exceptionally proud of what they have achieved.

"Despite all the gloom in the national media, our pupils' grades stand close comparison with last year and are a significant advance on what happened in pre-pandemic times.

"We wish all our leavers well as they move on and we congratulate them for everything they have achieved."
